Pero parece, a mi entender, que esa dimensión pública necesaria de la universalización de dicho servicio –correos y telégrafos- como instrumento mediante el cual la ciudadanía ha podido comunicarse hasta ahora, está tocando fondo de una manera escandalosa en los últimos años. Las nuevas tecnologías: la telefonía, el fax, el correo electrónico y la videoconferencia van a apuntillar a este servicio otrora tan necesario en un plazo muy corto de tiempo. Lo único que parece salvarse por ahora de las tareas que ejercían estos servicios públicos, son los llamados “Parcels”: los servicios de paquetería. Los Estados están esgrimiendo que el servicio ya no es rentable -soportable para las arcas públicas- y están cerrando oficinas y reduciendo personal o, en su caso, manteniendo una plantilla mal pagada, con cada vez más trabajo por el aumento de población, y poco estimulada, con el consiguiente deterioro del mismo.
Pero lo que es curioso, a pesar de lo dicho, es que el servicio de correos, que, a mi humilde entender es un servicio público, o lo que es lo mismo, una obligación del Estado y un derecho de la ciudadanía independientemente del lugar en que resida –una pequeña aldea de Las Alpujarras o una gran ciudad- esté siendo objeto de batalla entre las multinacionales privadas por el control del mismo. O sea, que hay negocio. Y cuando el negocio entra en un sector determinado, lo único que busca es la máxima liquidez y lo que no entre en ese parámetro, no se atiende. Es decir, que si uno vive en una aldea alejada de una gran ciudad o en un núcleo residencial verá mermada la calidad o, en su caso, anulada, por no ser rentable para la empresa propietaria del mismo. Viene a colación esto porque de un tiempo a esta parte, el servicio postal español se está deteriorando de una forma –con todo respeto para los directivos responsables-, que da la impresión de ser deliberada. ¿Se está dejando morir a Correos? ¿Qué están haciendo los sindicatos mayoritarios? Esta muerte anunciada aunque poco aireada, esta privatización que asoma su negra zarpa ávida de dinero, trae escondida un deterioro del servicio, una pila de prejubilaciones y recolocaciones del personal funcionario, laboral o eventual y, que nadie lo dude, un negocio para una multinacional a la que le importa un bledo los derechos de la ciudadanía.
